March 2026 Newsletter

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I've been steadily working on new service offerings to provide this year. I cannot wait to share more with you next month, after interNational Nanny Training 😉

InterNational Nanny Training Day is just around the corner - Saturday, April 11 9am-3pm - and we are so excited to be a part of it! Peace of Mind Nannies is proud to sponsor this event each year because its mission speaks directly to our core values of excellence, community, inclusion, and diversity. Held in both English and Spanish, iNNTD is thoughtfully designed to ensure nannies of all cultural backgrounds have equal access to a meaningful day of professional growth. This year, I'll be leading a workshop on "Tips & Tricks for Caregivers to Best Support Autistic Children" - a topic close to my heart and incredibly relevant to the families we serve.

If you have a nanny, this is a wonderful opportunity to invest in them - and in the quality of care your child receives. Many families offer a professional development stipend as part of their nanny's benefits package, and iNNTD is the perfect way to put that to use. Use promo code POMN at checkout for $5 off tickets! You're also welcome to pass along this little bonus - encourage your nanny to follow us on Instagram at @RIpeaceofmindnannies the week of March 30th for a chance to win a FREE ticket to the event!

To our current and past clients - thank you! It is truly an honor to have supported your families, and that trust means the world to us. As we head into spring, we have several experienced, dedicated nannies on our Peace of Mind Nannies team actively seeking long-term, full time positions. If your family is in need of consistent, high-quality care - or if you know someone who is - we would love the opportunity to help!

Referrals are one of the greatest compliments we can receive, and as a small token of our gratitude, if the family you refer chooses to hire through us, we'll gift you two hours of babysitting, completely on us. Don't hesitate to reach out - we're here to serve!

Workshop Update

The blizzard canceled our Default Parents's Survival Guide workshop planned with Kim Paull Coaching.

We're rescheduling, and I'd love your input - even if you weren't planning to come. If you're a default parent, when would you attend an in-person workshop?

  • Weekday am, after school drop off

  • Weekday lunch

  • Sunday late afternoon

  • Weekend brunch

Activity Fun: St Patty’s Day

Rainbow Sensory Play & Soda Bread Decorating

This two-part activity weaves together Irish culture, hands-on learning, and creative expression — designed so every child can participate meaningfully, regardless of ability.

Part 1: Rainbow Sensory Bin (Arts & Crafts)

Rainbows are central to Irish folklore — leprechauns hide their gold at the end of one! Use this as a springboard to talk about Irish legends in simple, age-appropriate language.

What you need:

  • A shallow bin or tray (low sides = accessible for all)

  • Colored rice, kinetic sand, or cloud dough in red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple

  • Small scoops, spoons, cups, and funnels

  • Gold coin manipulatives or yellow pompoms for the "pot of gold"

  • Optional: laminated rainbow picture cards for visual reference

Adaptations:

  • Sensory - Offer gloves, tools instead of hands, or dry alternatives like colored oats. Let the child lead on how much they touch

  • Mobility/physical - Mount the bin on a raised surface or wheelchair tray. Use adaptive scooping tools with easy grips

  • Cognitive/developmental - Keep it open-ended. Focus on color matching, scooping, and pouring rather than a "finished product."

  • Visual or hearing - Use highly contrasting colors, narrate every action aloud for visually impaired children, or use visual schedules/picture cards for deaf/hard of hearing children

  • For under 5: Pure sensory exploration - pour, scoop, mix. Name the colors as you go

  • For school age: Challenge them to layer colors in rainbow order and tell a short story about what the leprechaun left behind

Part 2: Mini Irish Soda Bread Decorating (Cooking/Food)

Soda bread is a real, traditional Irish staple - simple, rustic, and made without yeast. This is a great moment to share that in Ireland, families have made this bread for generations

Pre-bake or buy small plain soda bread rounds ahead of time. The activity focuses on decorating and topping - the most sensory-friendly and accessible part.

Topping options (set up as a "station"):

  • Whipped butter tinted green with food coloring

  • Honey drizzle

  • Shamrock-shaped sprinkles

  • Raisins to press into designs

  • Green-tinted cream cheese

Adaptations:

  • Sensory - Use a spreading tool instead of fingers. Offer non-food alternatives (craft version with playdough "bread") for children who struggle with food textures

  • Mobility/physical - Use non-slip mats under the bread, adaptive utensils, or a plate guard. Pre-portion toppings in small cups for easy independent scooping

  • Cognitive/developmental - Use a simple visual step card (1. pick a topping, 2. spread, 3. eat!)

  • Visual or hearing - Verbally describe each topping's smell and texture. For deaf/hard of hearing children, use a visual choice board with pictures of each topping

  • For under 5: Press raisins into butter, drizzle honey, eat and enjoy!

  • For school age: Encourage them to design a "leprechaun's lunch" and narrate what their leprechaun would think of it.

Tying It Together

Read aloud a short book like Tim O'Toole and the Wee Folk or That's What Leprechauns Do before or after to anchor the cultural learning. For non-readers or younger kids, simply show pictures of Ireland — green hills, sheep, stone cottages — and narrate in a warm, simple way.

The beauty of this activity is that no child needs to do it the same way to feel fully included — every version is valid and celebrated.
